Barbara Zdrazil studied Pharmacy at the University of Vienna, graduating in 2002. She accomplished her diploma thesis at the University of Granada, Spain, funded by a Sokrates-Erasmus fellowship. Barbara received her doctorate degree in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Vienna in Nov 2006. During her thesis Barbara was predominantly working in the field of ABC-transporters, QSAR, and Similarity-based descriptors (SIBAR). During her postdoc in the research group of Hans-Dieter Höltje (Heinrich-Heine-University of Düsseldorf, funded by the BMBF-Initiative “NanoforLife”), Barbara mainly applied structure-based modelling techniques for drug design.

Since 2008, Barbara is working in the Pharmacoinformatics Research Group (head: Prof. Gerhard F. Ecker) in Vienna, where she studies the molecular mechanisms that underlie substrate/inhibitor recognition and transport by membrane transport proteins (funded by SFB35 ‘Transmembrane Transporters in Health and Disease’, FWF). Within the framework of the IMI project ‘OpenPHACTS’, Barbara is annotating bioassay data of open-access small compound databases.

In December 2019 she has passed her habilitation colloquium with distinction and is teaching since that as a "Privatdozent" for Pharmacoinformatics.
